Robert Keates has been a criminal defense attorney from the beginning of his legal career, focusing on defending clients against criminal charges. He has tried both felony and misdemeanor jury trials and he has appeared in over a thousand criminall court proceedings.

Mr. Keates works closely with each client to promote open communication, empowering Clients with the knowledge and information to effectively assist in the representation of the case. He returns calls and will spend the time necessary to ensure you're educated about the criminal justice process and your case options.

Robert Keates received his legal J.D. degree from Hofstra University School of Law. After graduating with concentrations in both Criminal Law and Constitutional Law, he obtained his LL.M. Masters of Law Degree in Criminal Law from California Western School of Law, one of only two Universities at the time in the United States that offered such a program.

Mr. Keates has clerked for a Federal Judge in the 5th Circuit (Texas, Lousiana), as well as worked for the California Innocence Project. He has argued motions and prepared cases with the Federal Defenders of San Diego, and was employed nearly six years with the Orange County Public Defender's Office. At that office, Lawyer Keates was immediately assigned to jury trial and advanced quickly to handle a large caseload of serious felony and misdemeanor jury trials for both adults and juveniles. In 2008, Mr. Keates was awarded the Don Simms Award for 'Attorney of the Year' within the Public Defender's Office. He was also the recipient of several "Litigator of the Month" awards for Trial work while representing Juveniles.

Mindy Gulati, Of Counsel

Mindy Gulati works closely with the firm on select misdemeanor and felony criminal cases, jury trials, and parents in dependency cases. She is the owner/lead attorney at the Gulati Firm in Austin Texas.

Mindy has years of criminal defense experience with misdemeanor and felony trials, and is a true believer that everyone deserves to be heard. Her compassion for her clients is foremost in her practice of law and her dedication is unmatched.  She fights vigorously on every case and her success is evident in the results.

Mindy received her Juris Doctorate from Thomas Jefferson School of Law and graduated Cum laude. She is a member of the Texas Bar, California Bar Association; American Bar Association; Orange County Bar Association; Newport Harbor Bar Associationp; National Lawyers Guild; California Public Defenders Association; and the California Dependency Attorneys for Parents.

Maureen, Legal Intern & Bookkeeper

Maureen is the Firm's Legal Intern. She currently attends Widener School of Law, where she focuses on Criminal Law, Constitutional Law, and Family Law.

She completes paralegal and law student level work for the firm including: Billing & Accounts Receiveable, Legal Research, and aids with Governor's Pardon Petitions.

Maureen provides preliminary research briefs to the attorneys concerning potential legal issues on new case and trials, upon which the Attorneys follow up on and complete with Motions and Legal Briefs.
